The Brief
Located in the heart of Anatolia, Ankara has long served as the administrative center for successive powers, from the Hittites and Romans through the Ottomans to the modern Republic of Turkey.

The Challenge
Ankara adopted the Hittite Sun Disk in 1973 to affirm its status as Anatolia’s capital, and the motif quickly spread through city institutions. A conservative council replaced it with a mosque symbol in 1995, ignoring public outcry. When that council lost power in 2019, calls to revive the Sun Disk resurfaced, but an official redesign has yet to materialize.

The Solution
Following the council’s directive on the Hittite sun disk emblem, created a versatile logo that works across all media, from billboards to phone screens. The palette of golden yellow and warm brown reflects Ankara’s dry steppes, Hittite monuments, and the yellow travertine used in Atatürk's Mausoleum and the Grand National Assembly.

Conclusion
Posting the project on local forums sparked an unexpected wave of support. People urged me to start a petition, email the city council, and more. This surge of encouragement demonstrates our enthusiasm for design-focused city initiatives and our willingness to rally behind them, deepening our connection to the place we call home every day.
